Beauty goes dark this autumn. Here are the hottest new trends

Gothic Eyes
Wet-look, rock-chick eyes were big catwalk news – seen everywhere, including Lacroix, Gucci and Givenchy.
How to
Brush a black lipstick unevenly
all around the eyes. (Heat the lipstick
with a hair dryer to soften before
applying.) Lightly dab black mascara
around the edges with the mascara
brush for a scruffy look and rim the
inside of the eyes with kohl.
The Kit
Miss Sporty Colour Me
Lipstick in Extreme Black (£2.49),
new GOSH Show Me Volume Mascara
(£7.50), new Bourjois Ultra Black
Khol & Contour Pencil (£4.25).

Barbarella Hair
Spotted at Dior, big, bouffant blow-dries
are the next hot thing in hair couture.
You’ll need plenty of back-combing
and height, and be sure to team with
60s-style fashion and make-up.
How to
Put hair in large rollers (all
facing backwards) and leave to set for
10 minutes. Starting from front to back,
pull out each roller and using a little
hairspray, back-comb each curl. Smooth
over the top layer of hair (being careful
not to destroy your height) and brush out
the ends to get soft, natural curls.
The kit
Tresemmé Roller Set (£8.99),
new L’Oréal Studio Line Indestructible
Volume Spray (£3.49), Superdrug
large comb (49p).
New neutrals
Forget last season’s glossy nudes – lips should now be a matte, flesh-toned beige (as seen at Alberta Ferretti, Alexander McQueen and Pucci).
How to
Stop lips from looking dry by
opting for creamy lipsticks and never
substitute with concealer.
the kit
Bourjois Docteur Glamour
Lipstick in Beige Fièvreux (£7.50).

Vintage twist
Up-do’s are demure and ladylike this winter, with sleek, vintage-style chignons making a comeback, as spotted at Prada and Ralph Lauren.
How to
Sweep hair back into a
neat, low ponytail and secure with an
elasticated hairband at the nape of
the neck. Lightly back-comb the hair
around the edge of the hairband to
create volume and smooth out over
the top of the ponytail. Divide the pony
into two sections and gently twist each
section from the top to the ends of the
hair, wrapping each loosely into a bun.
Secure one bun on top of the other with
kirby grips, tucking the ends of the hair
underneath each bun before adding a
vintage-inspired hairnet.
The Kit
Superdrug kirby grips, (£1.29),
Superdrug hairnet (79p), Pantene Ice
Shine Hair Spray (£3.29).
Power-brow
Big brows are back, spotted at the Dior, McQueen and Prada shows.
How to
Avoid plucking to let your
brows grow. To style, lightly brush
on a soft, brown brow powder or
eyeshadow, using upwards strokes.
Sweep on a coat of brow-fixing gel
for a smooth finish and defined
shape. Keep other make-up light, just
adding a hint of soft pink to your lips.
The Kit
Colorsport Brow Grooming
Kit (£7.25), Playboy Perfect Pair Brow
Liner Gel (£5.95).

Dark lips
Blackish reds and plums are another
hot colour for lips this autumn, as seen
at Julien Macdonald, Lacroix and Dolce
& Gabbana. Lipstick should be matte,
messy and as dark as you dare. Go
gothic by matching your lips to your tips.
How to
Vampy lips shouldn’t be too
defined, so no lip liner. Apply a creamy,
plum-toned lipstick to the centre of the
lips with a lip brush, and blend it out to
the edges of your mouth for a stained
effect, keeping a slightly deeper colour
in the centre of the lips. Work the
lipstick right up to the lip line, but leave
the edges soft and undefined for an
‘undone’ look. Team with berry nails.
The Kit
Maybelline Moisture Extreme
Lipstick in Burgundy (£4.99), GOSH Lip
Brush (£5), Glenis Baptiste Nail Varnish
in Rouge Nail (£5.99).
